When We Had Angels (1)
When we first had angels, no one knew what to do with them. I mean, they were pretty to look at and fast messengers and all, but we had the Internet for that and if you had to start every message with "FEAR NOT" and then wait for the message recipient to actually start fearing not (as opposed to gibbering in terror - they were pretty to look at, not soothing or anything), well, the Internet was just faster and more convenient, basically.
They were also good at the smiting and dishing out justice, but they didn't need money or food or anything like that and people did, and they also were the ones paying money, in taxes and stuff, so you pretty much needed to appease people with job security and things like that.
Plus, well, they kind of made some people feel bad. Like maybe they weren't as pretty or as good people or anything... They didn't mean to do it, I'm sure, but they did. And they made other people feel good. Maybe too good. If they saw an angel where someone else didn't or if an angel helped them and not someone else, they'd assume that meant that they were better than other people. That maybe they were justified in treating those other people like they weren't as good or maybe they didn't deserve help or anything. And it wasn't like that. It wasn't like that at all...
